Our Favorite Beijing Hutong Bars for a Post-Tour Drink

Guests on our Old Beijing Dinner Tour leave with a nice buzz, courtesy of the craft rice wine tasting stop in a restored tea-house, plus the free flow local beers and spirits at all of our other stops. But if you’re looking to carry on the celebration after the tour, or just want to keep exploring the neighborhood after dark, read on to discover some of our favorite hutong bars within a short walk of the endpoint of our dinner tour.

Carefully Crafted Cocktails – THE COOL KID

Five minutes walk from the end of the the dinner tour is THE COOL KID bar. This owner-bartender, 20-seat establishment has a varied and innovative menu of nameless drinks with Chinese flavors.

Our picks:

1. Hainan “yellow lantern” hot pepper distillate, mezcal, pineapple juice, lemon, Chartreuse, basil and tamarillo (foreground in the above picture).

2. Black rice, dark rum, dark chocolate, mixed berries, coconut milk (background in the above picture).

Location: 482 Dongsi Bei Dajie 东四北大街 482号 (walk directly south from the end point of the tour until you reach 482).

Hours: Open until 1am.

 

Cosy Corner – Great Cosmos

Great Cosmos is a neighborhood hutong bar with a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and a beer on tap to suit every palate.

 

Our picks: The Shiso Plum Sparkling Cocktail and the Goses Are Red Sour-Fruited Gose

Location: 82 Dongsi Sitiao 东四四条82号 (walk directly south from the end point of the tour and turn left into Dongsi  Sitiao)

 

Hours: Open until 1am.

Cheap and Cheerful – 7-Eleven

Fancy trying your hand at some street-side mixology? 7-Eleven has more than enough spirits, beer, wine, mixers and ready-to-drink cocktails on hand to have you sipping in style as you watch the world go by. It even sells cups of ice to help you mix like a professional.

Our pick: Whoyo Grapefruit Session IPA

 

Location: 254 Dongsi Bei Dajie 东四北大街254号 (walk 100m directly south from the end point of the tour)

Hours: Open 24 hours.

Coffee, Cocktails and Conversation – Margarita and Golden Weasel

On weekend nights, a who’s who of hutong hipsters and young professionals passes by Margarita and Golden Weasel. These two adjacent hutong bars are located inside and beside Self Coffee. In addition to margaritas, Margarita is great for bottled beers and reasonably priced mixed drinks. Golden Weasel serves innovative, easy-drinking cocktails.

Our picks: Margarita and Silk Coffee Negroni.

Location: 125 Dongsi Bei Dajie 东四北大街125号 (walk north from the end point of the tour, cross at the large intersection, continue north, and cross to the opposite side of the street)

Hours (Golden Weasel): Open until 12am Tues-Sun.

Hours (Margarita): Open until 3am.

Concert Club – Celestial

Head upstairs to Celestial for live music, a decent selection of draft beers, classic mixed drinks and a friendly crowd.

Our pick: Hefeweizen and a Moscow Mule.

Location: 2F, 74 Dongsi Bei Dajie 东四北大街74号 (walk north from the end point of the tour, cross at the intersection, and continue north until you reach number 74).

Hours: Open until 1:30am.
