GLL Wontons – now in English

If you’ve spent much time wandering around Shanghai, you’ve probably noticed the GLL Wonton empire that has been expanding around Shanghai, especially so in the last 3 years or so. There’s about as many as there are Starbucks, and that is really saying something.

Anyways, it’s fast food wontons that are cheap and tasty in a pinch. Sure, it’s not gourmet, and basically the franchise model is to receive the frozen wontons from a central kitchen so that all store employees have to do is boil them up for the customers.

And now the good news! Looking for something open to eat over the Chinese New Year holiday, I popped in, and the store attendant quickly asked is I could read the Chinese menu on the wall. I said yes, but clearly she didn’t believe me, and promptly handed me an English menu. Pictures are below for reference. Here is a link to all the locations around town courtesy of Dianping.

With basic Chinese, you can order delivery from your closest shop or just pop in. There’s surely one in your neighborhood.
