It’s the pre-summer time of the year. Let’s make the most of these days before the heat hits us! Here is a list of what to do in Beijing in May for you.

  • Yingyang Festival

    Yingyang Festival

    The fourth edition of the fest will be jam-packed with live performances, visual art projections and even yoga classes. You won’t find any mainstream dance music, but in addition to numerous local acts you will have Worakls and four French DJs from Boiler Room all in one place. The music continues through the night of the 29th, but if you want to sleep, camping and hotel packages are available. Attendees are allowed to bring whatever supplies they need.

  • Wetware Douban Music Festival

    Douban Music FestivalDouban’s Wetware festival will see a plethora of stellar musical acts head to Beijing for the four-day indoor bash. The shows will take place at Tango and the nearby School Live Bar, with the excellent singer-songwriter Cass McCombs and long-serving US indie types Low among the acts kicking things off on Thursday 18. Other highlights include Shanghai’s Duck Fight Goose, Germany’s Mouse on Mars and a Nightmares on Wax DJ set.

  • Noah Sheldon: Perpetual Chimes

    Perpetual ChimesFor his latest installation, Noah Sheldon makes good use of a load of chimes sourced from Taobao. Nestled in the hutong gallery, Arrow Factory, Sheldon’s installation is an interesting, and rather pretty, discourse on the relationship between sonic and visual art.

  • Tri4Change Super Sprint Triathlon

    Tri4ChangeBeijing-based triathlon busters Tri4Change team up with local charity Roundabout to host their fourth annual super sprint. Proceeds from the event – a very doable 400m swim, 12km bike ride and a 3km run – will help pay for the medical bills of ill and disadvantaged children.
